Assembly Speaker A.N. Shamseer paying homage to educationist A. P. Majeed Khan on Wednesday. Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education Chancellor and Noorul Islam education and health institutions chairman A.P. Majeed Khan who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 91 was laid to rest at the Neyyattinkara Town Juma Masjid on Wednesday. Mr. Khan was under treatment for age-related ailments. He was widely recognised for his contributions to the education and health sectors in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Born to Alisan Mohammed and Salma Beevi of Neyyattinkara, he entered the education sector by setting up a private technical training centre NI ITI at Amaravila. He was also the founder of the first engineering college in Kanyakumari. NIMS Medicity, set up by Mr. Khan at Neyyattinkara in connection with the 50th anniversary of the Noorul Islam Educational Trust, was another significant step in the health sector. The body was kept at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education at Thuckalay for public viewing on Wednesday morning. A large number of people flocked to Mr. Khan’s house at Neyyattinkara to pay their last respects. Assembly Speaker A.N. Shamseer; Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G.R. Rajesh and a host of political and social leaders paid their last respects to Mr. Khan. Governor Rajendra Arlekar; Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan; Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan; Shashi Tharoor, MP; Tamil Nadu Minister for Dairy Development T. Mano Thangaraj, BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed their condolences. Mr. Khan is survived by wife Saifunnisa and children Shabnam Shafiq (Noorul Islam Educational Trust executive director) and M.S. Faizal Khan (Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education Pro Chancellor and NIMS Medicity managing director).
