The Election Commission of India (ECI) has served notices on T.P. Ramakrishnan, Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate from Perambra in Kozhikode, and Fathima Thahiliya, the United Democratic Front (UDF) nominee there, following complaints over the use of communal tactics in their campaign for the Assembly polls. UDF activists had complained that public announcements with communal overtones against Ms. Thahiliya were used by Mr. Ramakrishnan’s campaign team. The notice against Ms. Thahiliya followed the LDF’s complaint that she had sought votes on the basis of religion. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the LDF has started an internal investigation into the allegation against its campaign team.
