The cow was injured when the owner of an eatery in Bajpe accidentally struck it with a kitchen knife while attempting to drive the animal away from the establishment. | Photo Credit: Special arangement The owner of an eatery in Yedapadavu in Bajpe police limits was booked for injuring a cow with a knife while trying to shoo it away from his eatery on January 11. The Bajpe police also registered a case against the owner of the cow for abandoning it on the road under dangerous circumstances. The police said the cow came to the eatery when customers, including several Ayappa veshadharis, were eating. The eatery owner brandished a kitchen knife while trying to drive the cow away. In doing so, the cow was injured on its nose. The Bajpe police registered a suo-motu case against the eatery owner Umarabba, under Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, for hurting the cow. The owner of the cow, Sudhakar Gowda, was also booked for offences under Sections 11(h) (owner failing to provide sufficient food, drink or shelter to an animal) and 11(i) (owner abandoning an animal, without reasonable cause) of the same act, the police said.
