Officers of the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) invoked Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988, against 101 accused in the State, said EAGLE Head and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ake Ravi Krishna. Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta appreciated the EAGLE police and the unit heads of all Commissionerate’s and districts for the measures being taken to combat narcotic drugs and ganja in the State. “The accused booked under PIT NDPS Act will be imprisoned for one year, and their properties will be seized,” Mr. Ravi Krishna said. “We booked PIT NDPS Act against 25 drug peddlers in NTR district, 18 in Alluri Sitarama Raju, 17 in East Godavari district, 11 in Visakhapatnam, 10 each were booked in Anakapalli and Tirupati districts, eight in Vizianagaram and two were booked in Nellore district,” the EAGLE head told The Hindu on Thursday.
