DYFI seeks immediate steps to fill vacant posts in power utilities

The State committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government immediately initiate recruitment to fill vacant engineering posts, including Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE–Electrical) positions in AP-Transco, AP-Genco, and A.P. Discoms, as well as engineering vacancies in various other departments across the State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DYFI State president Y. Ramu and State secretary G. Ramanna said that lakhs of unemployed engineering graduates had been waiting for recruitment notifications for nearly a decade, but successive governments had shown complete apathy towards their plight.

They said there were more than 2,000 vacant AEE posts in these three power utilities alone, and thousands of vacancies existed in other departments. However, not a single recruitment notification had been issued so far, which they termed as extremely deplorable.

They recalled that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had given a clear assurance last year that recruitments would be undertaken in the power utilities. However, the government failed to keep its promise, they said, and expressed concern that the failure to honour these assurances has pushed engineering youth into severe distress.

Many candidates, in the hope of securing government jobs, had borrowed lakhs of rupees to spend on coaching, books, and exam preparation, they said, adding that with recruitments not taking place, they are now faced huge financial losses, besides mental stress, frustration, disappointment, and anxiety.

Demanding immediate recruitment notifications, the DYFI leaders warned that if the situation continued to persist, they would launch a State-wide agitation.
