The district administration issued a directive to close all the licensed liquor outlets in the district on January 16, in observance of Thiruvalluvar Day. District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar stated that this regulation is imposed on Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac), Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation Bars, and extended to all places serving liquor. Action would be taken against violators under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937, the Collector said. Surprise checks are to be conducted to ensure total compliance.
