Residents of several coastal villages in the Vedaranyam region of Nagapattinam district have urged the government to take urgent measures to address the worsening drinking water crisis, which they say has left hundreds of families struggling for even basic needs.

In Thennadar panchayat, a coastal village with more than 500 families, residents said drinking water had not been supplied regularly for weeks. “Water supply comes once in 10 days, and sometimes not even that. There have been stretches of 15 days to nearly a month when no water is supplied at all. We do not even have water to bathe,” said Nagarathinam V., a resident.
