In an appeal to Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu during the West Godavari District Development Review Committee (DDRC) meeting on Saturday, Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said the government could proceed with declaring a crop holiday for the dredging of Upputeru outlet. Referring to Godavari delta modernisation, Mr. Ramanaidu said that a fresh survey would be carried out soon for the modernisation of canals. The public representatives and farmers could register their grievances on the irrigation infrastructure, he said. Participating in the meeting, Narsapuram MLA Bommidi Naicker alleged poor maintenance of irrigation infrastructure and demanded the replacement of the sluice gates of the delta irrigation system in Narsapuram Assembly constituency. On the strengthening of the banks of the Gosthani river, which flows in Tanuku Assembly constituency, MLA Arimilli Radhakrishna demanded that a retaining wall be built along the river. The public representatives, including Deputy Speaker R. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, assured initiative to address the challenges relating to the disposal of solid waste in the district headquarters. Dumping yard proposed Union Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries B. Srinivasa Varma announced that a two-acre dumping yard was being proposed for the disposal of solid waste collected from Bhimavaram town and its nearby areas. West Godavari In-Charge Minister and Minister for Energy Gottipati Ravikumar directed the officials to submit proposals for dumping yards required across the district. He asked the officials to prepare an action plan for the Godavari Pushkarams-2027. District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani announced that Ramakrishna Mission had pledged to donate 100 fishing boats to the fisherfolk for their livelihood.
