The Velachery Police arrested a domestic worker for allegedly stealing gold jewellery of over 24 sovereigns from the house of a private company manager.

The complainant, Rajesh, 52, a resident of Velachery, works as a manager with a private firm. He approached the Velachery Police Station on Thursday after noticing that gold chains, necklaces, and other ornaments kept in a bureau at his house had gone missing. He suspected the domestic help, identified as Guna, and sought police action to recover the jewellery.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. On investigation, the police found that the domestic worker had allegedly stolen the jewellery in small quantities over a period of time and pledged them at a pawnshop.

The police arrested R. Guna, 50, a resident of Balaji Nagar in Pallikaranai. Gold jewellery weighing over 24 sovereigns was recovered from a pawnshop. Further investigation is under way.
