Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan claimed on January 7, 2026 (Wednesday), that the DMK-led alliance is showing signs of disunity, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is gaining strength following the Pattali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) decision to join it.

Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, she said several parties aligned with the DMK are uncertain about continuing in the alliance. She pointed out that Congress leaders are making contradictory statements and said differences are also visible among other alliance partners, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin should first address issues within his own alliance before commenting on the growing strength of the NDA, she added.

Commenting on Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Tamilisai Soundararajan said that while TVK president Vijay has positioned himself politically against the DMK and ideologically against the BJP, contesting alone would not help defeat the DMK in the upcoming Assembly elections. She said TVK should consider joining the NDA, keeping ideological differences aside, with the common objective of defeating the DMK. She added that other parties with the same goal should also consider a similar approach.

On the Thiruparankundram issue, she condemned the DMK government and said judicial verdicts must be respected and judges should not be defamed. Referring to INDIA bloc MPs submitting a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking to move an impeachment motion against Justice G.R. Swaminathan of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, she termed the move unacceptable and demanded an apology from those who signed the letter.

She further criticised the DMK government’s reported decision to appeal the verdict in the Supreme Court, stating that it would amount to repeating the same mistake.
