Moorthy and AIADMK leader Sellur K. Raju began their election campaign on Wednesday from Madurai East and Madurai West Assembly constituencies respectively, in the district. Minister Moorthy began his campaign in Mangulam in Madurai East Assembly constituency. During his campaing, he said the DMK government implemented various schemes for the welfare of the people, including many women centric welfare schemes. Not only what was promised was delivered, but what was not promised was also delivered by the DMK. Referring to DMK’s election manifesto for the 2026 Assembly election, he said DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced several schemes including a ₹8,000 coupon to all non-Income Tax paying homemakers for buying or replacing home appliances. He expressed confidence that the DMK alliance would win in all the 10 Assembly constituencies in Madurai district. Sellur K. ASHOK Madurai West Assembly constituency AIADMK leader Sellur K. Raju who is contesting the elections from Madurai West Assembly constituency began his campaign in Tharappatti in Madurai West Assembly constituency. The former Minister said under the AIADMK rule several welfare and development projects had been implemented for the welfare of the people. The work would continue when the AIADMK alliance is voted to power, he said. He criticised the DMK regime for the deteriorating law and order situation in the State and the increase in the crimes against women. AIADMK candidate for Madurai North Assembly constituency P. Saravanan opened his election office in Narimedu on Wednesday. He said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced ₹10,000 to the families affected by the impact of inflation and tax hikes during the DMK regime to alleviate the problem faced by the people. The announcement was made considering the welfare of the people as under the DMK regime, the people faced several hardships, particularly due to the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, he said.
