Tiruchi Lok Sabha MP Durai Vaiko on Thursday said that it was appropriate juncture for the DMDK to join the DMK alliance.

Addressing media persons in Kovilpatti, Mr. Durai Vaiko, who is principal secretary of MDMK, said: “They have joined the alliance after deciding that it is the right move for both their party and for Tamil Nadu. On behalf of MDMK, I welcome this decision.”

The DMK alliance was strong and it had continuously won Assembly, Parliamentary and local body elections. “With the entry of the DMDK, the alliance has become even more stronger,” he further said.

The MDMK has been part of the DMK alliance for over 8 years and continued to uphold the objective due to which the party had joined.

On the Rajya Sabha election, he said his decision would be in line with whatever the party leadership decided.

To a query on seat-sharing, he said new parties had joined the alliance and they could seek seats accordingly. A committee had been formed by his party to discuss seat-sharing, and talks were likely to begin after February 22.

“We would be happy if MDMK gets additional seats, but under the present political circumstances, we do not want to create pressure on the alliance leadership. As the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and our leader Vaiko have already said this election is a battle between forces that uphold democracy and those opposed to it,” Mr. Durai Vaiko added..

He visited residents at Periyasamy Nagar in Thoothukudi, who were recently rescued from Myanmar and were suspected to have been detained in a BOF camp there.
