Minister for Food and Civil Supplies K.H. Muniyappa has said that the distribution of Indira Kits will begin by March. The kits containing tur dal, oil, sugar, and salt will reach 1.24 lakh cardholders, he said in a press conference in Hassan, on Friday.

The Minister said that the tender for the distribution of the kits had been floated. “The State government will distribute Indira Kits instead of the five kgs of rice, being provided under the Anna Bhagya scheme. This decision was taken considering the misuse of rice being supplied to beneficiaries,” Mr. Muniyappa said.

Further, the Minister said that the government had begun procuring ragi (finger millet). “The demand for ragi has been increasing in North India. Karnataka is a major ragi grower in the country and stands first in South India. The Centre has allowed the procurement of six lakh tonnes of ragi,” he said.

He asked the officers to ensure that only good quality ragi is procured.

Deputy Commissioner K.S. Latha Kumari, Zilla Panchayat CEO B.R. Poornima, Shubhanwita, SP, and others were present.
