Distribution of Form 12D commences in Kanniyakumari district, for the eligible senior citizens above 85 years and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) to cast their votes through postal ballot in the upcoming assembly elections.

A total of 9,722 elderly persons above 85 years have been identified across six constituencies in the district. This includes 2,701 individuals in Kanniyakumari, 1,728 in Nagercoil, 1,473 in Colachel, 1,779 in Padmanabhapuram, 994 in Vilavancode and 1,047 in Killiyoor constituency.

Meanwhile, a total of 11,887 PwDs have been identified across the district. Of this, 2,499 individuals are in Kanniyakumari, 1,679 in Nagercoil, 2,405 in Colachel, 1,599 in Padmanabhapuram, 1,546 in Vilavancode and 2,159 in Killiyoor constituency.

As per the instruction of Election Commission of India, for the PwD voters, the benchmark disability should not be less than 40% of the specified disability as stipulated by the concerned certifying authority.

The eligible individuals can have the option of vote through postal ballot and they can apply through Form 12D. These forms will be distributed directly to their houses and after filling up it must be submitted back to the concerned Booth level Officer within five days, since the announcement made by the Election Commission.
