Door-to-door distribution of Form 12D to voters aged above 85 years and persons with 40% and above disabilities to opt for postal ballot will be done till April 3. Those who want to use the option of postal ballots should give their consent through the filled-in Form 12D to the booth level officers by April 3.

Virudhunagar District Election Officer and District Collector N.O. Sukhaputra said that though the basic facilities, like ramps, wheel chairs and volunteers and toilet facilities for the elderly voters and differently-abled persons would be provided at the polling stations, the Election Commission had given them the option of postal ballots that could be cast from their house.

A team of polling officials, including two polling officials, one videographer, micro observers and one security personnel would make door-to-door visit to those who opt for the postal vote.

The secrecy in voting would be maintained under the process, the DEO said.

The BLO would intimate the date and approximate time of the visit of the polling personnel to the voters or through SMS to the mobile number given by the voter in the Form 12D in advance.

If the voter is not present at their residential address during the first visit of the polling personnel, the details like date and time of the second visit would be intimated to the voters.

Those who fail to cast their postal votes on the given two occasions would not get another option for casting their postal ballot as well as cast their votes through EVMs at the polling stations.

Those who opt for postal votes from home would not be allowed to cast their votes in the polling booths.

Further details about getting postal votes could be obtained through the toll-free number of 1800-425-2166, the DEO said.
