A disaster management mock drill was conducted at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at Narimanam station in coordination with the district administration to demonstrate preparedness and response mechanisms in the event of an accident.

The exercise focused on procedures to ensure safety during emergencies and measures to mitigate potential impacts. Officials said if an incident escalates beyond Levels 1 and 2 to a major emergency (Level 3), assistance would be sought from local and district administrations as well as nearby Union and State government agencies, with coordinated efforts to bring the situation under control.

As part of the drill, additional firefighting support was mobilised, including a fire tender from another ONGC facility and a fire engine from the Thirumarugal Fire and Rescue Services, considering the existing firefighting resources at the Narimanam station. An ambulance from the Nagapattinam Government Headquarters Hospital joined the ONGC ambulance within minutes to simulate emergency medical response.

Executive Director of Cauvery Asset Uday Paswan and Head of Engineering Sudheesh Kumar guided the exercise from the Karaikal emergency control room. The drill was conducted under the supervision of Production Manager K.V. Ilango and Chief Safety Officer K. Thirupathivasan were present.

Officials from the Revenue, Police, Health, and Fire and Rescue Services departments participated in the exercise. Narimanam GGS in-charge Sandeep led the event while General Manager P.M. Suresh coordinated the programme.
