Around 300 members of the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) staged a protest in front of the Dindigul Collectorate on Tuesday demanding better monthly assistance for the differently abled persons in Tamil Nadu.

The members said that the welfare assistance being provided in Tamil Nadu should be increased and it should be similar to what was being provided in the neighbouring States like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana which was much higher. They demanded that the Tamil Nadu government should increase the monthly assistance. Otherwise, they would intensify the protests, they said.

They said that the Tamil Nadu government was providing a monthly assistance of ₹1,500 and ₹2,000 respectively based on the nature of the disability. These amounts were not enough, they said, adding that it was difficult to make ends meet.

They said that the Andhra Pradesh government was providing a monthly assistance of ₹6,000 to differently abled persons and ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 respectively to persons with serious disabilities based on the nature of the disability.

Similarly, in other States like Telangana, Puducherry and Delhi, the respective governments were providing a monthly assistance to the differently abled which was higher when compared with the monthly assistance provided by the Tamil Nadu government, they said and demanded that the Tamil Nadu government increase the monthly assistance. The police detained the protesters.
