The once‑in‑12‑years darshan of fig wood idol of Varadhar with Goddesses Sridhevi and Bhoodev began at the Varadaraja Perumal Temple on Brahman Koil Street in Kumbakonam on Saturday. | Photo Credit: R. VENGADESH The one-and-half feet high fig tree wood idols of Sri Perumal and Goddesses Sridhevi and Bhoodevi were taken out of the safety vault at Sri Varadharaja Perumal temple, Brahman Kovil Street, Kumbakonam, on February 28 and kept for devotees’ darshan. The wooden idols were kept under lock and key at the temple, managed by the Saurashtra community people, for various reasons since early 1900. The one-and-half foot idols were taken out of the safety vault of the temple in the year 2013 and were kept for public darshan for 10 days. Later, they were placed at the safety vault located within the temple premises.
