Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday said the State had witnessed holistic development under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin during the last five years and called upon the people to extend their continued support for the “Dravidian Model 2.0” government to ensure implementation of more progressive schemes.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for 1,740 works worth ₹81 crore and inaugurating completed projects costing ₹34 crore in Kallakurichi, Mr. Udhayanidhi said Tamil Nadu had registered an unprecedented 11.90% GDP growth under the able administration of Mr. Stalin to take the State to the top spot in the entire country.

Besides creating social and industrial infrastructure across the State for all-round development and introducing a range of welfare schemes, the rural economy had been stabilised by strengthening the self-help groups by giving them loans to the tune of ₹1.4 lakh crore since 2021 for their business ventures.

Listing out various welfare schemes implemented by the government, Mr. Udhayanidhi said that a total of 3 lakh houses had been built under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme so far with another eight lakh houses planned by 2030. Members of women self-help groups received identity cards with photos for the first time, enabling free transport of up to 25kg goods over 100km on government buses and discounted purchases from State outlets.

The Deputy Chief Minister also distributed welfare assistance to the tune of ₹122.08 crore to 24,518 beneficiaries.

Kallakurichi Collector M.S. Prasanth, MLAs Vasantham Karthikeyan and T. Udhayasuriyan participated.
