Thrissur: In a landmark achievement for healthcare in central Kerala, Daya General Hospital has been awarded the globally acclaimed Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation — one of the highest recognitions in international healthcare quality and patient safety.

With this milestone, Daya becomes the first hospital in Thrissur to receive JCI accreditation, joining an elite group of hospitals in India that meet stringent international standards comparable to those of American healthcare benchmarks.

The JCI “Gold Seal of Approval” is a globally recognised symbol of excellence, reflecting an organisation’s commitment to delivering safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. The comprehensive assessment was conducted from January 13 to 16, 2026, by a team of JCI experts who meticulously evaluated the hospital’s compliance with international standards.

The evaluation covered critical areas including International Patient Safety Goals, patient assessment and care, anaesthesia and surgical services, medication management, infection prevention and control, quality improvement systems, governance and leadership, facility management and safety, staff qualifications and education, and information management systems.

Speaking on the achievement, Dr V.K. Abdul Azeez, Managing Director of Daya General Hospital, said:

“Receiving JCI accreditation is a proud moment not just for Daya, but for Thrissur and Kerala as a whole. This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to patient safety, ethical clinical practices, and continuous quality improvement. Our vision has always been to provide world-class healthcare locally, and this milestone reaffirms that commitment.”

Dr Fazil Abubakar CP, Medical Director, added:

“JCI accreditation is the result of years of structured systems, clinical excellence, and team dedication. Every department worked with precision to meet global benchmarks. This achievement assures our patients that they are receiving care that adheres to internationally validated standards of safety and quality.”

Daya General Hospital has previously secured several national recognitions, including National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH), National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), NABH Nursing Excellence, CAHO CSSD Excellence, and iCOMPLY certifications. With the addition of JCI accreditation, Daya stands out as one of the few hospitals in Kerala to hold a comprehensive portfolio of both national and international accreditations.

Healthcare experts note that JCI accreditation involves one of the most rigorous evaluation frameworks globally, focusing not only on infrastructure but also on patient-centred processes, risk management, clinical governance, and continuous performance improvement.

With this achievement, Daya General Hospital has firmly positioned Thrissur on the global healthcare map, reinforcing its commitment to uncompromised quality and patient safety.

Building on the milestone of receiving the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, Daya General Hospital has secured ₹150 crore in institutional equity funding in 2025 from Ascent Capital. The investment forms part of a broader ₹500+ crore expansion roadmap planned over the next five years, marking a defining chapter in the institution’s growth journey. Coming immediately after its global accreditation recognition, the funding signals strong investor confidence in Daya’s clinical standards, governance practices, and long-term vision to scale high-quality healthcare services across Kerala.

The newly raised capital will enable Daya to triple its bed capacity from the existing 500 beds to 1,500 beds in a phased manner. This substantial increase is expected to significantly enhance patient accommodation capacity across general, speciality, and super-speciality services. A major highlight of the expansion is the development of a dedicated Oncology Super Speciality Centre in Thrissur, scheduled to become operational by 2026. The centre will integrate medical oncology, surgical oncology, and radiation oncology services under one roof, offering comprehensive and multidisciplinary cancer care to address the rising incidence of oncology cases in the region. In parallel, plans are underway to establish a specialised Mother & Child Centre, further strengthening maternal, fetal, and neonatal care services for families across central Kerala.

As part of its long-term roadmap, Daya also plans to establish two new hospitals in neighbouring districts, expanding its geographical footprint and improving accessibility in tier-two and tier-three regions. The flagship Thrissur unit will be upgraded into a quaternary care centre equipped to deliver advanced interventions, transplant programmes, critical care expansion, and high-end speciality services. This strategic move is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel to metropolitan cities for complex procedures, thereby improving continuity of care within the state. The expansion will also focus on infrastructure modernisation, adoption of advanced medical technologies, and digital integration to enhance operational efficiency and patient experience.

Currently operating four healthcare units across Thrissur, Kunnamkulam, Palakkad and Valapad, Daya employs around 1,500 medical and non-medical professionals. With the implementation of its expansion plan, the organisation anticipates generating over 3,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing significantly to Kerala’s healthcare workforce ecosystem. Daya Hospital is expected to strengthen institutional capabilities, streamline processes, and reinforce sustainable growth. As healthcare demand continues to rise, particularly for speciality and critical care services, Daya aims to position itself as a comprehensive, accessible, and quality-driven healthcare network, committed to ethical medical practices and affordable treatment while expanding its presence across the state.
