The Central Zoological Authority (CZA) team, headed by its Member Secretary Clement Ben, and Rajamahendravaram MP D. Purandeswari on Wednesday inspected Diwancheruvu Reserve Forest for the proposed zoo on the outskirts of Rajamahendravaram city.

Mr. Ben is the Inspector General of Forests (wildlife, Project Elephant, forest protection, research and training). Accompanied by the Forest officials, the CZA team inspected the availability of the forest land, vegetation and forest cover to assess the suitability of the site for the proposed zoo. The zoo project includes a jungle safari according to the Forest Department.

Speaking to the media, Ms. Purandeswari said that a zoo is planned to be developed on 250-hectares of forest land, mostly within the Diwancheruvu Reserve Forest. At least 311 hectares of reserve forest area is available in the Rajanagaram Mandal in East Godavari district. The CZA has deputed the team for inspection in response to a proposal by Ms. Purandeswari for setting up the zoo.
