Cyberabad police issue public advisory to prevent thefts ahead of Sankranti

With several residents preparing to leave the city for Sankranti, Cyberabad police have issued a public advisory warning that vacant houses are particularly vulnerable to burglaries during the festive season.

Cyberabad DCP, (Crimes), Mutyam Reddy, said police have intensified preventive measures across the commissionerate, including increased night patrols and surveillance in residential colonies, to deter thefts.

Police said criminals often track travel patterns during festival period and target homes that appear locked and unattended for several days. Residents travelling out of the city have been urged to take advance precautions, including installing CCTV cameras in and around their homes and colonies, using strong locks and security systems, and ensuring vehicles are parked within house premises rather than on roads. People have also been advised not to leave valuables such as gold, cash or important documents inside houses or vehicles, and to store them safely in bank lockers if travelling for extended periods.

The advisory also cautions residents against sharing travel plans on social media, as such information is often misused by criminals. People have been asked to inform neighbours or the local police station before locking their homes and leaving the city, enabling patrol teams to keep an eye on such properties. Those travelling with valuables have been advised to keep their belongings close and remain alert, especially while using public transport.

Cyberabad Police said citizens’ cooperation is crucial in preventing festival-time thefts and urged the public to immediately report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar movement in their neighbourhoods through Dial 100 or the Cyberabad Police WhatsApp helpline.
