Cyberabad police issue fog safety advisory to prevent road accidents in winter.

The Cyberabad police issued a public advisory urging motorists, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders to exercise heightened caution during dense fog conditions prevailing during the winter season, warning that poor visibility significantly increases the risk of road accidents.

The police said extra vigilance is essential on the Outer Ring Road, highways and major city roads, where fog can severely impair visibility, particularly during early morning hours.

The advisory strongly discourages pedestrians from venturing onto roads during foggy conditions unless absolutely necessary. Those who do step out have been asked to cross roads carefully after checking traffic from both directions and to avoid wearing dark or dull clothing, as drivers may not be able to spot them easily in low visibility. Bright clothing and cautious movement, especially near junctions and curves, were emphasised as key safety measures.

Two-wheeler riders have been advised to ride at low speeds and avoid unnecessary travel during fog. The police stressed the importance of keeping headlights, fog lights and tail-lights clean and switched on, maintaining a safe distance between vehicles and using brakes smoothly rather than abruptly. Riders have also been asked to wear reflective jackets, keep helmet visors clean and avoid distractions such as mobile phone use while riding.

For motorists, the advisory highlights the need to keep windshields clean, use defogger or anti-fog modes, ensure tyres have good grip and keep vehicle reflectors in good condition. Drivers have been cautioned against frequent lane changes, the use of cruise control and sudden changes in speed. Hazard lights, the police said, should be used only when a vehicle is stationary.

Special attention has been drawn to the movement of heavy vehicles, which must display reflective stickers and keep headlights and taillights on at all times. Drivers have also been asked to watch out for animals on rural roads and to ensure they are well-rested, as fatigue can reduce reaction time.

In case of emergencies during fog, motorists have been advised to stop safely in the left lane rather than braking suddenly. The Cyberabad Police reiterated that following traffic police instructions in fog-affected areas is crucial, and urged road users to remember that vigilance is protection.
