A joint meeting of officials and police officers from Cuddalore district and Puducherry on Monday has resolved to step up surveillance in areas along the inter-State border in view of the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The joint meeting was chaired by Cuddalore Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar and Puducherry Collector A. Kulothungan.

According to a press note, the discussions centered on the upcoming State Assembly general elections with focus on tightening surveillance along the inter-State border to curb electoral malpractices.

Mr. Senthil Kumar said preparatory measures were under way to prevent transportation of freebies, cash, weapons, liquor, and other contraband. The officials also held discussions on strengthening joint surveillance and intelligence sharing mechanism between the two administrations.

Cuddalore Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar and Senior Superintendent of Police (Puducherry) R. Kalaivanan participated.
