S.K. Bellubbi, former Minister and other leaders like C.M. Ganakumar and Vijay Joshi visited the fields of the affected farmers in Gennur village. Mr. Bellubbi said that around 65 acres of crops were damaged after the main canal of the Mulwad lift irrigation canal breached. He said that the irrigation department officials had taken no measures to repair the canal, despite farmers’ warning them weeks ago. The farmers have suffered damage to sugarcane, onion, and groundnut crops. Mahesh Gouda, a farmer who was being washed away in the canal, was rescued by other farmers, Mr. Bellubbi said. He demanded compensation of ₹1 crore to each farmer who suffered crop loss.
