In a shocking incident, illegally manufactured fireworks valued at around ₹10 lakh, which were seized and kept under lock and seal by the officials were found missing from the godown in V. Meenakshipuram near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar district on Friday.

In August 2025, during a raid, the officials found that a person identified as Ganesh Pandi had allegedly produced fireworks illegally. After investigations, the authorities locked and sealed the godown. A case was registered.

During trial, the court in Sattur, directed the officials to destroy the illegally manufactured fireworks as per the Standard Operating Procedure.

To comply with the court order, when officials arrived at the spot, they were shocked to see the godown lock was broken and the goods kept inside were missing.

Discreet probe indicated that 250 boxes were lifted after breaking open the godown, a police officer said and based on the confession, the godown owner Ganesh Pandi and his associates Ramar, Thirumurugan, Ramkumar, Muthuraj and among others were arrested. Three goods vehicles used to transport the fireworks was also seized.

Further investigation was on.
