The CPI’s M. Ganesh and the Congress’s S. Lalitha Kumari have been unanimously elected as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Kothagudem Municipal Corporation (KMC) respectively. The CPI and the Congress entered a ‘power-sharing agreement’ for the KMC following a hung council. As per the agreement, the CPI will hold the mayor’s post for the first two-and-a-half-years and the Congress will assume the post in the remaining period of the five-year term, according to CPI sources. The CPI and the Congress had won 22 divisions each in the keenly fought election for the 60-member Kothagudem Municipal Corporation. The BRS had won eight divisions. In Peddapalli district, the Congress wrested the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation where its candidate Mahankali Swamy was unanimously elected as the Mayor of the civic body.
