The U.S.’ military action against Venezuela evoked sharp response from the communist leaders in Kerala including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] general secretary M.A. Baby. Condemning the attack, Mr. Baby said the U.S. attack on Venezuela is a blatant imperialist invasion on a country that resisted the imperialistic designs and American domination over the years. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said the U.S. has been behaving like a rogue state and the main objective of the latest attack is to subjugate the country to American dictatorship. The attack on Venezuela today may be repeated against other countries tomorrow. The U.S. attack on Venezuela is also a blatant violation of the international laws, said Mr. Baby, while calling for strong public protests against such incidents. The bombing of Venezuela is also an act of international terrorism by the U.S.-led imperialism. Trump’s (U.S. President Donald Trump) claim of kidnapping President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, if true, is another blatant violation of international law. This exposes the fallacy of the U.S. claims of Trump being a ‘President of Peace’ and lays bare the ugly face of the U.S.’ militaristic aggressiveness to the entire world, he said in a social media post. ‘In solidarity’ “We stand in solidarity with Venezuela. The CPI(M) calls upon its members to organise protests wherever possible. The international community should mount pressure on the U.S. to stop their blatant aggression on Venezuela and the UN Security Council should condemn this aggression,” he said. Strongly condemning the aggression, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the attack reveals the vicious operation of a rogue state, fuelling unmasked hostility in the global south for imposing its devious schemes. “It is also an act of terrorism, posing a threat to the tranquillity in Latin America, a continent with the legacy of enduring such onslaught and anti-imperialist struggles. All should rise in unity to call out this brazen assault on Venezuela and resist the imperialist moves against global peace,” he said in a social media post. Alleging that the attack was aimed at asserting control over the country’s vast oil reserves, CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan said the invasion of the sovereignty of the country by bombing and imprisoning the President is to protect the interests of corporations. “We appeal to all party units and democratic believers to organise strong protests across the country against this,” he said.
