Condemning the “illegal detention” of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the U.S., the CPI(M) staged a demonstration near Chidambara Nagar bus stop here on Tuesday.

Led by K.P. Arumugam, district secretary of CPI(M), the protesters raised slogans against U.S. President Donald Trump and the U.S. for the “authoritarian and illegal detention” of Mr. Maduro. While the arrest of the Venezuelan leader was being portrayed as war against drug trade, the U.S. was eyeing the enormous oil reserves of Venezuela, they said.
