The Communist Party of India (Marxist) launched a week-long campaign for an inter-State metro from Bengaluru to Hosur, demanding extension of the metro project from Attibele to Hosur. The party has initiated a civic society campaign till January 20, when the party will organise a public meeting. Addressing the media, R. Badri, State Committee member of CPI (M) said, in September 2025, an inter-State metro rail from Bommasandra to Hosur was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while inaugurating the yellow line. At that time, Tamil Nadu had agreed to bear the expenditure for the 11 km extension from Bengaluru to Hosur. “However, it had been stated that the Bengaluru’s Namma Metro and Chennai Metro Rail Limited operated on different technical frequencies and hence it was not feasible for the metro link from Attibele to Hosur. This was a flimsy excuse given the emerging technologies,” said Mr. Badri. He added that 1.3 lakh people commute between the State borders and Hosur has the second highest number of commuters, next to Chennai, which makes this a profitable model. Further, the number of Highway casualties were also the highest, making a metro link imperative. “If an international airport is seen as a necessity for Hosur, these three demands will only require a fraction of the cost to be implemented,” Mr. Badri said. In addition, the number of passenger trains between Hosur and Bengaluru, which is currently one, should be increased to ease congestion. There are currently 3,000 passengers using the passenger train and a single train is insufficient to accommodate the demand. The party also demanded that Jolarpet-Krishnagiri Hosur rail line be set up for connectivity to Chennai. The three demands will be pushed through the Party’s Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan, who was a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee. On January 20, a two-wheeler rally will be flagged off from the inter-State border at Zuzuvadi to Ram Nagar, followed by a public meeting in which R. Sachidanandam, MP, Dindugal, will take part. There will be a sustained campaign in Hosur till January 20 to create awareness among the public on the significance of these demands. The party will meet with resident welfare associations, trade unions, passenger welfare association and civil society groups to mobilise public rallying.
