Jaggu Naidu on Tuesday (February 10, 2026) demanded that the RTC authorities increase the number of city buses in tune with the growing population of the city. The failure to operate city buses in proportion to the population is causing hardship to commuters during the peak hours. The CPI-M district committee organised a rally from the Gandhi statue to RTC Complex here to highlight the inconveniences being faced by students, employees, women, senior citizens, and physically challenged persons. Addressing the gathering on the conclusion of the rally, organised at the Visakhapatnam Region of RTC, Mr. Jaggu Naidu said that an additional 1,760 buses would be required in Visakhapatnam in proportion to the population of the city. The available buses were not even one-third of the required number. The State government, which implemented the Stree Shakti scheme, has failed to increase the number of buses to meet the demand. He also deplored the moved to give RTC buses on hire to private colleges, even as the common passengers were facing difficulties due to shortage of buses. He demanded that the RTC withdraw the buses hired to private colleges and operate them for the convenience of common commuters. CPI-M district secretariat members B. Padma, RKSV Kumar, P. Mani, V. Krishna Rao and B. Jagan were among those who participated in the protest.
