As part of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (CPCL) Diamond Jubilee celebrations, The Hindu In School partnered with the company for the second consecutive year to conduct a quiz programme for government school students under CPCL’s CSR initiative, encouraging learning beyond the classroom.

The first prize was awarded to S. Subash, a Class IX student from Chennai Higher Secondary School, T.H. Road, Old Washermenpet. The second prize was secured by M. Sohail Ahamed, a student of Class IX from Chennai Urdu High School, Old Washermenpet. The third prize was won by M. Sobitha, a student of Class VII from Jaigopal Garodia Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Choolaimedu.

Nearly 8,000 students took part in the preliminary rounds conducted across 40 government schools in and around North Chennai. A total of 120 students competed in the finale on Wednesday. The winner and runners-up received cash prizes of ₹10,000, ₹7,000 and ₹5,000.

P Kannan, Director (Operations) and Manova Jeevados D, Chief General Manager (HR) CPCL, addressed the gathering. Gajendrababu S, Manager (Corporate Communications), G. Chakravarthy, principal, CPCL Polytechnic College, Manali, and P. Subramanyam, Regional Head – Sales & Distribution, Chennai, The Hindu Group also participated.
