A man who joined as cook at a residence in Nandagiri Hills around 15 days ago allegedly drugged fellow house helps and fled with gold jewellery and cash valued in lakhs when the homeowners were away. The Jubilee Hills police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the accused and his accomplices.

The accused has been identified as Bhuwan, a native of Nepal, who was recently employed as a cook at the house of a businessman from Hyderabad. Police said he was assisted by three other men, all from Nepal, who are also absconding.

Detective Inspector of Jubilee Hills police, M. Satyanarayana, said that the incident took place on Thursday night after the family left the house in the evening. “The four remaining staff, including the watchman and other domestic workers, were present on the premises. Bhuwan allegedly offered them cold drinks mixed with sedatives, claiming it was his birthday,” said the officer.

After the staff members lost consciousness, Bhuwan and his two accomplices allegedly entered the house and made away with gold jewellery and cash. The theft came to light when the staff regained consciousness and alerted the homeowners, who then approached the police.

The DI said that preliminary investigation indicated that the accused had planned the offence in advance and had coordinated with his associates. Police are examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence to trace the suspects.
