As several senior MLAs of the ruling Congress have been seeking cabinet berths, Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Friday (March 20) that any decision on it will be taken only by the Congress high command and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Dr. Parameshwara, who supported legislators’ right to express their desires, said, “It is natural to have aspirations, and there is nothing wrong in seeking a ministerial post. What is wrong with MLAs asking for an opportunity? However, it is up to the high command to decide also the Chief Minister’s discretion,” he said.

The Minister said the high command would look into legislators’ demands and decide what needs to be done at an appropriate time.

Several Congress legislators, who have served as MLAs for more than three terms, on March 17 called on Mr. Siddaramaiah and urged him to undertake a cabinet reshuffle exercise and give them an opportunity to serve as Ministers.

A week ago, senior MLAs of the Congress held a dinner meeting and decided to go to Delhi, after the Budget session of the Legislature, to put pressure on the high command to direct the Chief Minister to undertake a Cabinet reshuffle. They have been demanding the induction of at least 20 senior MLAs during the reshuffle.
