The Congress on Sunday announced P. Viswanathan as its candidate for Melur Assembly segment in Madurai district. The party, which was allotted 28 seats as part of DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, had announced candidates for 27 seats, barring Melur, a few days ago. In a press release, All India Congress Committee general secretary K.C. Venugopal announced the candidature of Mr. Viswanathan, who earlier represented Kancheepuram seat in the Lok Sabha, from Melur.
