A little over two years after work on Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre attached to the Government Medical College Hospital, Tiruppur, began, at the initiative of Rotary and Public Welfare Trust, Tiruppur, under the Namakku Naame Scheme, the facility is all set for commissioning in the coming days.

The 100-bedded 50,000 sq. ft. facility established at a cost of ₹60 crore is equipped with construction of bunker structure, Medical Linear Accelerator (LINAC-truebeam-dual energy), and internal radiation treatment – Brachytherapy, among other vital equipment.

The LINAC equipment was purchased through the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation, it is learnt.

Public funding of ₹5 crore as the one-third share for the project carried out under Public-Private Partnership was mobilised by the Tiruppur Rotary Public Welfare Trust.

Accompanied by A. Muruganathan, past Rotary governor and past IMA (Indian Medical Association) president; S. Meera, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services; and R. Manonmani, Dean, Government Medical College, Tiruppur, District Collector Manish Narnaware conducted an inspection recently.

The facility, official sources said, will be inaugurated on Tuesday (February 24, 2026) by Minister for Information and Publicity M.P. Saminathan.

The next phase expansion at an expenditure of ₹40 crore will feature PET – CT (positron emission tomography–computed tomography scan), and vital laboratory equipment, sources added.
