Coimbatore Corporation plans to establish two new zonal offices at Thudiyalur and Vadavalli to ensure easier access to civic services for residents in areas that are expected to be brought under the city limits. The proposal follows a directive issued by the Tamil Nadu government to incorporate 14 surrounding local bodies into Coimbatore Corporation. The Government Order, dated December 31, 2024, covers Madukkarai Municipality, four town panchayats — Perur, Vedapatti, Irugur and Vellalur — and nine village panchayats — Neelambur, Mylampatti, Chinniampalayam, Kurudampalayam, Ashokapuram, Somayampalayam, Malumichampatti, Seerappalayam and Keeranatham. For easier administration, Coimbatore Corporation is structured into five zones: North, South, West, East and Central. As part of the proposed expansion, Keeranatham and Ashokapuram, located on the northern side of Thudiyalur, are to be merged with the Corporation. Officials said residents have to travel 12–14 km to reach the existing North Zone office on Dr. Balasundaram Road in Gandhipuram to access civic services, which causes inconvenience. To bring services closer to people, the Corporation proposes to construct a new North Zone office in two blocks on Saravanampatti Road at Thudiyalur at ₹3.90 crore. Similarly, Somayampalayam, north of Vadavalli, and Vedapatti, south of Veerakeralam, are expected to be merged with the Corporation. With the existing West Zone office at R.S. Puram located 10–14 km away, access to civic services from these areas is difficult. Plans have been drawn up for a new West Zone office in two blocks on Thondamuthur Road near Vembu Avenue at Vadavalli, estimated to cost ₹3.92 crore. The proposals have been sent to the Directorate of Municipal Administration for approval.
