The Coimbatore Corporation collected 85.43 tonnes of bulk household waste during a four-day waste collection camp held across the city from January 10 to 13. According to Corporation officials, the public handed over items such as old beds, sofas, mattresses, tables, chairs, and other large household waste materials at collection points notified in each ward. In some areas, the Corporation also sent vehicles to houses to collect bulk waste. The daily collection stood at 28.32 tonnes on January 10, 18.97 tonnes on January 11, 29.43 tonnes on January 12, and 8.71 tonnes on January 13. A senior Corporation official said that recyclable items would be handed over to authorised vendors, while wooden waste would be sent for use as firewood. The official added that the camp was organised to prevent bulk household waste from being dumped along roadsides during Bhogi.
