The Coimbatore City Police have launched a drive to curb illegal use of toxic industrial dye auramine O for the making of synthetic cow dung powder, locally known as manjal saani powder, intake of which continues to be the cause of death in several cases of suicides. The Variety Hall Road police on March 19, 2026 (Thursday) searched several shops, registered six cases and seized more than 250 kg of the synthetic dye, after they were allegedly kept for illegal sale for non-industrial purposes.
