A coconut trader, P. Mallikharjuna Rao (40), was charred to death on Saturday when a lorry caught fire after electric cables fell on it near Tadikalapudi village of Kamavarapukota mandal in Eluru district. Nearly 15 workers in the coconut orchard had a narrow escape on the occasion. The mishap happened when the workers were plucking coconuts in the field. The lorry was completely gutted in the accident. Fire personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames.
