Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that reports that the makers of the “schismatic and derogatory” film The Kerala Story are planning the release of the second part of the movie are a matter of grave social concern for Kerala. He said on Wednesday that the original movie was a malicious lie that sought to malign Kerala and undermine its secular social fabric. However, the people had seen through the made-up story that sought to denigrate Kerala. The film’s motivating forces were those who feared Kerala’s communal amity and fraternity. The Sangh Parivar forces had promoted the film to propagate a false narrative about Kerala. “Such elements are true enemies of the State,” he said. Mr. Vijayan said the Sangh Parivar-governed forces had banned the film Beef for its name, which they found offensive. However, the same entities had no qualms about giving screening permission to movies which sought to inject communal venom into society. Kerala topped the country in development, poverty eradication, health care, education and physical quality of life indices. The kinship among its people, which transcended caste and religious differences, was the main driver for the State’s enviable achievements. Mr. Vijayan urged the public to set an example by rejecting such hate and divisiveness. “It is the responsibility of all of us to protect Kerala’s social progressive, democratic and secular foundations from such forays by Sangh Parivar forces. Kerala is our pride. Lies cannot besmirch the State. Truth should prevail. Kerala should stand as one against such divisive elements,” Mr. Vijayan said.
