CM Naidu approves A.P. FIRST Research Centre project in Tirupati

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has approved the project of setting up (AP FIRST) in Tirupati. The project aims to prepare the future generations to meet the evolving industry requirements.

Chairing a meeting with the advisors from the aerospace–defence and IT–digital transformation sectors at his camp office on Friday, the Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh is focusing on identifying future-oriented sectors and strengthening the skills of the youth to support long-term economic growth. Senior officials from the Drone Corporation also attended the meeting.

The AP FIRST will be developed as the largest and most prestigious research centre in the State, combining the strengths of two premier national institutions—IIT, Tirupati and IISER, Tirupati.

“The institution will support innovation, research, and skill development aligned with future technologies,” he said and called for consultations with the Central government to ensure effective management and national-level integration.

Mr. Naidu noted that sectors such as aerospace, defence, space technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, semiconductors, quantum technology, healthcare, biotechnology, green energy, and rural technologies would play a crucial role in shaping the future of the State.

“The State government is framing policies to attract investments in these areas. The upcoming green ammonia plant in Kakinada is an example of the government’s push towards clean and sustainable energy,” he said.

Emphasising collaboration, Mr. Naidu said AP FIRST would coordinate closely with universities, startups, and leading companies to harness innovative ideas emerging from students in both government and private institutions.

“Emerging technologies must be incorporated into academic curricula through continous engagement between educational institutions and industries,” he said.

Drone technology

The Chief Minister directed the officials to strengthen the Drone Corporation, expand the use of drones in the agriculture sector and during medical emergencies, and study advanced concepts such as drone taxis and drone ambulances.

He instructed officials to explore the feasibility of a Drone Traffic Control Management System in coordination with the Centre.

Aerospace and Defence Advisor Satish Reddy, IT–Digital Transformation Advisor Amit Duggar, IIT Tirupati Director Prof. K.N. Satyanarayana, DMTI Director Colonel P.S. Reddy, and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
