HYDERABAD

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has been using inflated figures, repeatedly claiming in the Assembly, press conferences and public platforms that his (Congress) government has been repaying debt piled up by the previous BRS government, by raising fresh loans.

This was being done to malign the previous government, mislead the Legislature, conceal administrative failures and mislead people, BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan said here on Sunday. He pointed out that the government’s own Socio-Economic Survey Report, presented in the Assembly, reveals a completely different picture.

According to the official data, the total repayment made by the present government towards FRBM-related loans, including principal and interest, is about ₹1,67,742 crore. In contrast, the Chief Minister in the Assembly claimed that his government had repaid ₹3,30,570 crore in debts.

The Finance Department’s report analysing Telangana’s debt position between December 1, 2023, and December 31, 2025, categorises repayments into FRBM Loans, where the government repaid ₹40,660 crore as principal and ₹56,350 crore as interest, totalling ₹97,010 crore; government-guaranteed SPV loans serviced by itself were ₹70,732 crore, including ₹47,043 crore as principal and ₹23,689 crore as interest.

Together, these two categories represent the actual repayments made by the State Government, which amount to ₹1,67,742 crore. The total repayment made in case of the government-guaranteed loans raised by SPVs and serviced by them amounted to ₹1,02,744 crore. The repayments made in the fourth category, consisting of non-guaranteed loans repaid by corporations, were ₹33,717 crore. The latter two categories were serviced entirely by the respective corporations from their earnings, he claimed.

By including the repayments made independently by corporations and SPVs within the government’s repayment claims, the CM had inflated the repayment figure by ₹1,36,461 crore, Mr. Sravan said.
