MURALI KUMAR The minimum temperature in Bengaluru has dropped by about three to four degrees Celsius in the last few days. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, the Bengaluru city observatory recorded a minimum of 14.9 degrees Celsius and the HAL Airport and the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) recorded 15 and 13.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Last week the minimum temperatures hovered between 19 and 17 degrees Celsius. On January 2, Bengaluru city observatory recorded a minimum of 19.1 degrees Celsius and the HAL Airport and the KIA recorded 18.1 and 17.6 degrees Celsius respectively. “There has been a drop in the minimum temperatures in Bengaluru and several other districts in the last couple of days which is expected to last for two or three days after which the temperature is once again expected to increase,” IMD Scientist C.S. Patil said. The IMD has attributed the drop in minimum temperature to clear skies. “The drop in temperatures is due to clear skies at night. When there are no clouds to trap the heat there will be a drop in temperatures,” Mr. Patil said. The lowest ever temperature recorded in Bengaluru for January is 7.8 degrees Celsius on January 13, 1884. Last year, the lowest minimum temperature for January was 12.6 which was recorded on January 4, 2025.
