The Greater City Traffic Police is investigating the assault of a traffic police constable by a head constable at Marina Beach on Monday. The video of the assault had gone viral on social media.

A senior police officer said the head constable of Triplicane Traffic Police Station, Shanmugasundaram, was on duty at the Marina Beach when traffic constable Raghavan, along with constable Leo Charlie, who were in plain clothes, picked up a quarrel with him on the service road in the Marina beach. During the argument, Shanmugasundaram hit Raghavan.

Investigation revealed that the two constables, with the Triplicane Traffic Police Station, were assigned night duty on December 31 last year. However, as both of them did not turn up for work, they were placed on the waiting list and instructed to report to the control room.

Angered by this, they went to the Marina beach on Monday to meet Traffic Inspector Sakthivel to enquire about their transfers. Since the Inspector was absent, they got into an argument with Shanmugasundaram, who was on duty, the officer said.
