Image for representational purposes. | Photo Credit: Getty Images Cracking down on anti-social elements in Mysuru, the City police arrested a rowdy sheeter and sent him to Shivamogga Central Prison, while a drug trafficker was nabbed and externed to Sagar town in Shivamogga. The City police detained rowdy sheeter Ganesh alias Ganapa, 25, a resident of Janata Layout in Vidyaranyapuram Police Station limits, who is engaged in driving and shamiana work, under the provisions of the Goonda Act. A statement issued by the police said Ganesh is a habitual offender and has repeatedly been involved in serious crimes, including assault and attempted murder. A total of six criminal cases involving bodily harm and property damage had been registered against him — three in Vidyaranyapuram Police Station and one each at Krishnaraja, T. Narsipura and Ilavala police stations. Additionally, two non-cognisable cases are also registered against him at the Vidyaranyapuram Police Station. “His continued involvement in criminal and rowdy activities has created fear in society and disturbed public peace,” the police said before adding that the Commissioner of Mysuru City Police issued a detention order under the Goonda Act on February 14. He was arrested on February 15 and sent to Shivamogga Central Prison, the police said. The City police have also arrested Manjunath alias Aslam, 51, a resident of Kyathmaranhalli lake hutments, Udayagiri, Mysuru, and externed him for six months to the jurisdiction of Sagar Town Police in Shivamogga district. Three cases had been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for his repeated involvement in the illegal sale and transportation of ganja in Udayagiri, Lashkar, and Bhadravathi Police Station limits. Additionally, he was involved in several house-breaking and theft cases in Saraswathipuram, Vidyaranyapuram, Kuvempunagar, and Vijayanagar Police Station limits in Mysuru City and Mandya Rural Police Station limits during 2004 and 2005, along with his associate. In order to prevent his continued illegal activities, the City Commissioner of Police issued an externment order under Section 55A of the Karnataka Police Act 1965. Based on this order, he was arrested on February 15 and externed to the jurisdiction of Sagar Town Police Station in Shivamogga district. “Through these actions, strict measures have been implemented against rowdy and illegal activities within Mysuru City limits, and a clear warning has been issued to habitual offenders and those involved in illegal ganja trade and transportation,” said a statement issued by the City police.
