Stalin on Wednesday announced a slew of infrastructure projects for Dindigul district. He also inaugurated completed projects, laid the foundation for new projects and distributed welfare assistance to beneficiaries. Addressing the gathering at a government function held in Dindigul, Mr. Stalin said a world class Moringa processing industry will be established in Markampatti near Oddanchatram at a cost of ₹7 crore. He said Moringa was extensively cultivated in the region and the main objective was to support Moringa export. A world class Tourism Investment Park will be established in Kodaikanal with all adequate infrastructure facilities on 100 acres of land through SIPCOT, he said. Mr. Stalin said in India, Tamil Nadu was leading in the production of ‘Gloriosa Superba’ or ‘Glory Lily’. Steps would be taken in collaboration with the Union government to ensure a fair price for Glory Lily which was mostly exported. Some of the other infrastructure projects announced by the Chief Minister for the district, included upgradation of basic amenities such as roads, streetlights, and drinking water facilities in Dindigul Corporation areas at a total cost of ₹14.20 crore. Renovation of the existing underground drainage system and sewage treatment plants under the Corporation areas at a cost of ₹38 crore and a new sewage channel will be constructed in Oddanchatram Municipality limits at a cost of ₹17 crore. The sacred waterbodies (theerthams) associated with Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani, Idumbankulam and Shanmuga river would be upgraded at a cost of ₹6 crore. A new building for the newly established Natham Arts and Science College will be constructed at a cost of ₹18.50 crore, he said. He inaugurated 111 completed projects to the total tune of ₹337.84 crore. He laid the foundation for 212 new projects to the tune of ₹174.20 crore. He also distributed welfare assistance to the tune of over ₹1082 crore to 2.62 lakh beneficiaries, at the event. Ministers I. Periyasamy, K. K. S. S. R. Ramachandran, K. R. Periyakaruppan, R.
