A section of chicken traders in Kozhikode district accused wholesale poultry farm owners of hoarding in an attempt to create a shortage of supply and drive up market prices. They alleged that the illegal practice would affect both customers and traders in the sector. The traders called on the Civil Supplies department to carry out flash inspections of suspected poultry farms to expose the foul play. Local traders would be compelled to shut their shops if the authorities fail to take proper legal action, they added.
