1. A mega international conference on Social and Educational Chess, titled ‘Chess Mahakumbh’, was inaugurated at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, on January 14, a first-of-its-kind chess conclave in India. 
  2. The event was organised with the support of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the All India Chess Federation (AICF), focusing on chess as a tool for education and social transformation. 
  3. The inaugural day saw the launch of major chess infrastructure at KIIT, including the International Chess Hall and the Viswanathan Anand Chess Academy, reinforcing the university’s commitment to promoting chess. 
  4. The conference brought together top global chess leaders and legends, including FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand, FIDE Deputy Chair Dana Reizniece, and senior AICF officials. 
  5. The event witnessed participation from over 40 countries, involving more than 5,200 participants, including over 5,000 players from India and 80 leading Indian chess players. 
  6. Speakers highlighted chess as a powerful instrument for academic excellence, cognitive development, empowerment and social change, with FIDE officials underscoring its global impact across 201 member countries.
