Krishnakumar, based on a complaint filed by prison authorities, as he failed to surrender before them on time as directed by the Madras High Court in a criminal case. The police said that Varaaki was originally arrested and remanded to prison a few months ago for allegedly threatening and verbally abusing his landlady in an obscene way. She had asked him to vacate the rented house, which he was allegedly using for illegal activities such as fraudulent land registrations, intimidation, and extortion. Varaaki had previously been arrested for misconduct toward women. He was detained under the Goondas Act in this instance.
